Garcia Girls Reflection

        The Garcia girls is one of the worst books i have ever read in my life. I honestly can say that it taught me 2 things from it. The first thing that i have learned from it is that you should always be respectful to your roots and where your ancestors have came from. growing up, i never liked being jamaican but as i grew old, i started to like being jamaican. The Garcia girls have fell far away from their roots and metaphorically lost their accents. When losing their accents, they started to give into american culture and follow what pop culture has to offer. I myself do not like the Garcia girls and their actions because they are to stick strong to who they are and not strem away from their real purpose which is to follow their parents and be happy. Sofia, is a failure at life and always messed up. She needed to be dominican and stay happy so that she can get far in life. Another thing that i have learned from this book is that you should judge a book by its cover. Initially i thought that this book was going to be a normal school book that i would not enjoy based off the cover, but i gave the book a chance and it made me mad like all other curriculum books. The book is written backwards which is really amazing. I find to peculiar for you to start a book at where the main characters are to where they were before. Its it makes you really have to pay attention and read deeply. EVen though i read deeply, i still never enjoyed a book because it never had any aspects in it that one can connect to on the daily basis. Overall, this book has tough me little to nothing and i would never recommend it to anyone to read, it would be a waste of time.

Treyvon Martin

What i know about the Treyvon Martin case is that he was an african american who was shot by a hispanic man while walking from a supermarket. Martin was shot and there was no one to help. The gun man Zimmerman has received no jail time and wil not be indicted for his actions on the innocent little boy. This story has happened over a month ago but it has stirred up a lot despite on where Zimmerman was right for shooting the kid or was he wrong for his actions. This is going to be something that is in the news for a long time and will cause conflict between races across America and the world.

Honestly, i am not well educated enough on the situation to give a definite side on the matter. Based of rumors and what i have heard from others, i feel like the gun man was wrong for his actions and he know he was. I dont understand how you can shoot a little kid for wearing a hood and call it self defense when the kid was not even bothering you. Stuff like this makes me mad also because being an african american in america is one tough ordeal and people fail to recognize how hard it is. Living in the suburbs as a black is difficult enough. I have had experience where i walked into stores with a group of white friends and i am the the only who gets their packets checked for theft. In addition to the gun mand option to shoot the kid, it makes me morn for the family because the kid had so much life ahead of him and he had it stripped from hi. To shoot someone is hard enough but to have the gall to shoot a child, you must be out of your mind, like what is wrong with you? PEople need to look at this situation and pretend like martin was their kid. If it was my kid i would do anything to fight for him and have the government act promptly on Zimmermans actions. People are failing to realize the magnitude of this event.

Post On Anything (Kony)

The whole Kony thing is sparking great controversy. Some believe he's real, others don't and think he is made up so people running charities can make money. I think he is real, but people are taking advantage of him to make money. Many people are donating money to Invisible Children, but only roughly 1/3 of that money is going to the army, to help find Kony. The rest is going to celebrities who helped Kony be famous and to pay for the trip to Uganda I strongly believed this whole thing was for a good cause at first but now i see that it is pure foolishness.
If only Only 31-32 percent actually goes to helping the cause they use more of the donations to make videos than to stop Kony. Also, many survivors of Konys army say he died 5 years ago... and he is most likely not in uganda anymore since he knows the us will be looking for him also, ugandan residents don't even have problems with Kony
We shouldn't be taking soldiers away from their families for years to fight someone that is probably not even there anymore.I think that it is really shady, but there's some truth there. As long as Kony is still alive, he's a problem. It said in the video that both him and his followers have moved mainly out of Uganda and into other African countries. You have to understand that he stops, regroups, proposes peace, and goes around and kills people again. You almost have to give him credit for some serious strategy, but this dude is terrible. Once a killer, always a killer. It's not like in movies where you can have a change of heart over night. I'm personally going to do some more research and find out. I don't care if he's not active, this guy is not believably dead, so he needs to be caught.

Art Of Life

One thing that i have been intrigued by is 1960's music both American and Jamaica. Recently i was watching the Grammy's and I saw the beach boys performing. Initially i thought that it was going to be terrible, like what would i look like listening and watching "the beach boys"? When they started performing my head automatically started to nod to the smooth melody of the music. They performed a song called "Surfer Girl." The song was amazing and they did an amazing job considering their age, most of them are in their 60's and 50's. After hearing them perform their song, I went home and did research on the group to find out more about their genre of music. I found other music groups like The Buckinghams and the Beatles, well the Beatles are already been popular but i recently started listening to their music. When i hear their music i hear a time where everyone is happy and content with themselves. Their music resembles the time period because it was such a fun time to be yourself and enjoy life for everything that it has to offer. Modern "pop culture" music all sing about the same thing, talking about relationships, having their heart broken, being gangster,being cool etc.. We do not find and socially conscience musicians that reflect on what going on around them but them selves. People talk about how much woman they have and how much money they have. I honestly do not agree to music like this, it is witch craft! So, i have taken the initiative to listen to old music to let me enjoy life and be aware of how life is supposed to be lived. i BELIEVE IT IS IMPORTANT TO like this music and listen to it because it brings you back to a time of happiness. People fail to realize the power of music, Adolf Hitler would play music that made people go crazy ( OK, i know that is pushing it lol) but it s powerful thing and when you listen to 1960's music it will put at peace and enjoy what life is supposed to be about!

Questions!

1) The thing that annoys me the most is when people chew their gum very obnoxiously. People need to take into consideration that not everyone wants to hear their spit and jaw vigorously gyration on their gum. This annoyances first started out when my i was younger and my dad would chew his gum in front of me and he would be so ' raw ' with it. In my mind i was like "can you please close your mouth and chew normally ?!?!?!" It never happened so now whenever someone chews their gum like a cow it gets me very irritated. In addition to chewing, i hate it when people pop their gum when they are talking to me. I find it as a sign of disrespect. Its either you spit your gum out and talk to me or you chew like a normal person. In addition to the disrespect, they are spitting n my face which is also disrespectful in my opinion. People just need to stop chewing gum and chew pen caps to relive their jaws.

2) The thing that you would recommend for everyone is to be yourself no matter what anyone else thinks. People are always quick to judge someone. I get made fun of everyday for being myself and i have realized that people either have to accept me as i am or not accept me at all. I feel like many high schools follow what everyone else is doing and don't have a mind for themselves, essentially walking robots. People need to be open to life and embrace it and not spend time being someone they truly arent. I have had many family members who have followed what is going on around them and ended up dead. Being ' cool ' is not going to get anyone far in life, unless your Pauly D. God has made us a special way and we could be an inspiration to anyone if we just act like ourselves. There is a kid that once changed my life, he came in for a show and tell and presented things that signified his life and i found out that his parents were killed. This kid also went to church regularly and this inspired me To be a humble person and treat everyone as i would be treated. Just be yourself and you will succeed in life.

3) A famous person alive today whom I admire is Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow is admirable for many reasons. I first admire him because he always proves people wrong. When Tim tebow came out of college to play quarterback in the the NFL. This is one of the toughest jobs anyone can have, which tim tebow had been doing an amazing job at. He has had the most 4th quarter comebacks in a single season. When he entered the playoffs he was not capable of winning a playoff game against the Steelers. He proved all of his critics wrong be throwing a game winning touchdown on the first play of overtime. In addition to his heroics on the field, off the field he is a christian man and he is very open about it. I respect a man that sticks to his values and does not give in to what is around him. People always attack him for giving praise to go after games but he does not care, he does it after game still to this day.

Blog Day 5's

So far in the book, Sofia in my opinion has not learned anything from her actions. She continues to be disrespectful to h parents and not adhering to their advise. For example, in the beginning of the novel, Sofia was a Domicaican woman that had values of the typical "dominican." She always had boyfriends but she would never had thought of having sex with him in a premarital way. Otto, her lover always asks for sex and he gives it up to him because of the American influence around her.  She has not learned from her mistakes clearly. She is constantly arguing with her father over things that are obviously wrong. Also, she does not take the chance to sit down and explain to her father the things that are going on with her but she constantly insists on arguing with her. Well from this section we can realize that Sofia's dad is very supercilious and he does not make her openly date who she wants which leads to conflict ahahaha. This section was prosaic and does not go in great depth with the characters, thus making me lose interest in the novel like Sofia.

From reading this book, i have realized there is only one 'positive' ,  Sofia marring Otto. From here marrying

STERIOTYPES

1. My personal belief is that woman and men are not equal. Sike! First, I am going to discuss what is exacted of woman in 2012. I feel like woman now are stepping up in life are are taking more responsibility for "man" like jobs. As the years progressed, woman are starting to become more involve in politics, they are CEO's etc. , this a good year for woman to step up! In contrast to woman, i feel men are now taking the jobs of a stereotypical woman. Men are now stay home people who go grocer shopping and do chores while the mom is out getting the bread for the family. This is a quite interesting turn in events because throughout history men were inferior to woman but not the roles are switched! When a man thinks of a woman, they think automatically SANDWICH, COOK, WATCH Children, which are stereotypes that have seem passed down over time. But! IF you are a realist and pay attention to life, men will ook at woman who are strong people who love and care for whatever that do but they are very emotional. On the flip-side, i feel like woman look at men as strong figures who should set the rules and stay strict to what they believe. In addition, woman think men should be loving igures who stick up for their families and have sexy bodies! (heheh) The difficulties of being a woman in this age is that men think that they are worthless and incapable of doing tough strengthens occupations. While the difficulties of being a man is that we have too much expected from us from woman.
2. IF Carlos had the opportunity to break Sopias collarbone, he would defiantly jump for it! Sophia has been very arrogant, disrespect and sloppy!

First to start, i feel like mia is entirely overrated but this article is completely biased. The arthus is talking as if she knows Mia personally. She needs to get her facts straight before she starts making internet sites discussing it. This article is interesting because i am a fan of music and have been listening to MIA for a couple of years and i found it funny that she sold out during this super bowl concert because she in my opinion is not good. In addition, this author brought out a side to the concert which i never thought about before which is very interesting. I would recommend this article to someone who loves to read because this is a pretty lengthy article which took up about 10 minuties of my life to read. I personally do not like to read but if you do , you would love this. This kind of clever paradox has always been fundamental to the idea of M.I.A. The fact that she didn't immediately fit into any ready-made categories lent her an air of opposition. She was a pop freedom fighter, uttering radical sayings and writing songs about pulling up the poor.

I'm not a big fan of nuclear. Noone has figured out how to safely store *any* of the spent fuel. People talk about long term storage, but noone has even tried to do it. If storage costs (or the long term health costs) are included then nuclear fuel is decidedly un-economic.Nuclear weapons are pretty nasty too, but if you don't have one, then it won't be too long till the Americans come and blanket your country with semi-Depleted Uranium like they did to Iraq, which is not better. Building a nuclear weapon is an ugly solution, but probably necessary. I'd be less concerned by nuclear weapons in the hands of the Iraqi state than in the hands of the Americans or the Israelis. This article brought out how important it is for america to stay out of forighn affir. Americca loes to get in everyones life an dmess it up whle we have plant of promblems in america as it is. also, I am an American. While I am not happy about any country possessing nuclear weapons, I am not sure there is much anyone can do to stop it. Iran claims it is not interested in a nuclear weapons program.while I would like them to find a less dangerous source of energy. with dwindling fossil fuels  alternative energy sources are a necessity.

I agree completely with this article, he is a very intelligent ball player and thats the best part of his game. I am very familiar with basketball and can connect to exactly what this article is saying. THis article is no way biased, it is all complete truth and is written based of statistics. I mean yes he can drive well, and yes he can hit the clutch 3 but his intelligence is of a seasoned veteran already, its scary to think of his veteran like ways when he's in his 30s with a few rings (hopefully). I am a Miami heat fan and have been for years (before LBJ and Bosh etc) so its not like I have a considerable like for jeremy Lin, but ye I'm aware of his talents on the floor. His turnovers will be cut down, but like norris call( a rookie), he's not afraid of failure and trying things. This will only make him a better player. If knicks had better defense, they would be a scary team, and I say scary because I am a miami heat fan. With defence, the Knicks could have a chance at beating the heat for the title run. 

Questions On LIFE!

1. Of course the person is more interesting than Albert Einstein. Personally i would rather marvel at someone pulling a bunny out of their hat than see E=MC my whole life. Albert Einstein helped in the creation of the Manhattan project which led to the deaths of thousands in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I would rather the man that is less harmless and does something that makes me laugh and entertained every day.

5. I would defiantly have my the person attempt to break my soul mate's collar bone. I would not allow it to happen though. My reasoning for it not happening is simply because, i will set up a trap for the person with the wrench. I would have a bow and arrow and shoot him in his knee caps ever three years. One a serious note,  I would swallow the pill, because even if every song will sound like that Alice band, i will still get the lyrics from the song which has the deeper meaning.

7. The thyroid cancer will be on the front page because, IT IS THE PRESIDENT. I would not want to hear any nonsense about a LOCKNESS Monster. The president is also African Americana so i feel like more people would be sympathetic for him. In addition, I Feel like science is all witch-craft and will not hold as of a significance as the president would.

12. I would pay him NOTHING! I am sexy how i am. I do not feel like a person should get paid to "look" better. In my own opinion i feel like people with low self esteem would pay money to look prettier but we should all accept how god has made us and go along in life and be grateful!

16. Yes, i would definitely watch it. I feel like if i am going to be obsessed with it, i should start early and learn about the game.In addition, my swag will be impeccable because none of my friends watch Canadian football and i would be the first one. I could possible start a revolution in American sports!

19. I would tell my friend that he was snoring very loud and was constantly fluctuating.  In addition, i would tell him that the room smelt soo bad from his gas that i almost suffocated and that i had to kick him in his ribs so that he could wake up and stop this raw, disgusting smell in my room.

20. I would rather watch the Movie and the interviews on my life. I always found it interesting the way that people describe my behavior and my influence on him. I would get more from the interviews because it would inform me on how much of asset i am to people and how they could not live without me in their life.

The front page of this book is really interesting to me. It has a small front cover, it is all yellow and that color makes me think of the sun and the good things that are supposed to come in the future. based off the name of the book, my assumption would prove to be contradicting according to the title of the book. when someone loses their accent, it shows that they lost a part of culture and they are undergoing a subliminal change. The front cover has the legs of what seems to be a salsa dances. I know in Hispanic cultures, salsa dancing is a big part of their life and plays a big part in family traditions. The front has plenty of information that can be gained from looking at it and pondering about it. on the rear of the book, it talks about how the book is special and how many people enjoy it. I don't believe in these reviews, i need to read the book to see if it is foolishness or not.
From looking at the family tree, it is evident that the Garcia family has an extended history and this may be important to them. It seems like they have come a far way from where they originally was. This makes me believe that from the family having such a extended history, it will be a huge thing that they will lose their accents.
From reading the first couple of pages i have realized that he author, Julia Alverez, has a distinctive writing style, it actually makes me want to read the book. Personally, i have never read a book in its entirety, but from reading these first couple of pages it grabs so much of my attention that I will read the whole book!
